Iceberg and the ILFM supporting the future of legal finance professionals

Iceberg, one of the leading providers of practice finance to law firms across the UK, is funding scholarships with the Institute of Legal Finance and Management (ILFM) for those who want to undertake additional learning in order to advance their careers.

The funding provided to date has enabled nine legal finance professionals to undertake further education and training, allowing them to progress in the industry. The scheme was launched in 2018 with the aim of funding two ILFM members a year to study a qualification course, with several other smaller awards available to give successful applicants the chance to take part in one-day training courses.

Pascal Brass, a Controller in a global law firm, was selected for scholarship funding towards an ILFM Diploma qualification after he impressed both Iceberg and the ILFM with his drive to further his career.

Commenting on the opportunity, Pascal said:
“My goal is to become a well-rounded, legal finance professional and the lack of specific training available brought me to the ILFM, as they are able to offer tailored training and qualifications.

The scholarship will enable me to gain further responsibility in my role and hopefully take all financial operations and accounting tasks for my current firm fully in-house to London.

Jenny Gillman, who was also awarded a scholarship, added:
“Despite having years of industry experience, this scholarship will allow me to gain a much more in-depth knowledge, improving my confidence and making me better at my daily role.”

The not-for-profit ILFM is the UK’s leading membership organisation in the legal sector that provides a range of services and professional courses designed exclusively for legal finance professionals and legal management professionals, including legal cashiers, accounts managers and compliance officers for finance and administration.

Tim Kidd, Chief Executive of ILFM, commented:
“This scholarship is all about encouraging members to learn more and advance their careers so it is a pleasure to support people like Pascal and Jenny in their further learning ambitions.”

Iceberg provides unsecured loans to law firms towards partners’ tax, professional indemnity insurance and capital expenditure, along with litigation finance for their divorce and probate clients.

Mike Stevenson, Managing Director of Iceberg, said:
“At Iceberg, we really value the importance of encouraging professional development and how vital it is that businesses give their people the opportunity to undertake further education.

We are delighted that Iceberg are able to support this by sponsoring the scholarships offered by the ILFM
