Spring clean and save

Getting your house shipshape and squeaky clean doesn’t need to cost a lot of money and you might even make a tidy sum by getting rid of your unwanted items. Take a look at some of our tips below on how to spring clean and save...

Use homemade cleaning recipes

Instead of spending money on expensive cleaning products, why not give these homemade recipes a try? Your house will be sparkling with minimal spend. Cleaning stainless steel – For water stains on sinks and taps slice a lemon in half and use it to scrub any stubborn stains. The lemon will also leave a nice citrusy scent to your kitchen.

Multi-purpose cleaner – Mix 120ml of white vinegar with two tablespoons of baking soda and add 10 drops of either lemon, tea tree or lavender essential oil. Pour the mixture in an old spray bottle and top up with water. This makes a great multi-purpose cleaner which works on a variety of hard surfaces.

Deep clean shower head – Fill a sandwich bag with a mixture of vinegar and baking soda, tie it around the shower head and leave to soak overnight. Remove the bag and scrub the shower head with an old toothbrush, any debris will come off easily.

Dusting spray – Add 237ml of water, 60ml of vinegar, 1 teaspoon of olive oil and 15 drops of your favourite essential oil into an old spray bottle. Shake the spray bottle before use and spray directly on to furniture and buff off with a clean cloth for dust free surfaces.

Get organised

Before you start cleaning, it’s a good idea to pick up and eliminate clutter in each room. As you do this set up a couple of boxes, one for sorting and another for items to sell.

Sell any unwanted items

Any items you don’t wish to keep can be sold on online auction sites. If you have enough items, it might be worth setting up a stall at a local car boot sale. Your house will be less cluttered, and you’ll have some extra money for your piggy bank.

Switch to microfibre

Microfibre cloths reduce the need for paper towels and expensive cleaning wipes which only last one use. Microfibre cloths can be used to clean most surfaces and can be washed in the washing machine providing multiple uses, saving money in the long term.

We hope that our tips help you to have a successful Spring Cleaning Week without the additional expense.
