With manufacturers looking to the future and investing in new technology, we caught up with Alison Jones, Paragon’s Head of Aviation, to discuss how sustainable technology will revolutionise the sector and how customer demand is helping to drive the change.

What are you most looking forward to in 2023?

I’m really looking forward to adding to my Aviation knowledge by learning about the latest developments in sustainable technology. The potential of alternative powered and fuelled aircraft is steadily improving thanks to manufacturers investing in research and development.

It will be fascinating to see when these enhancements will become available and I look forward to continue working with current and new customers to support them in acquiring the latest technology for their business.

What is the future of the aviation sector?

In one word, innovation. When the International Air Transport Association (IATA) committed the sector to achieving net zero carbon by 2050 it was the start of a period that will bring substantial change to both aviation and the environment. Customers are also starting to demand strong ESG policies from suppliers and that will help drive further innovation; we all have a role to play in meeting the challenge of net zero. Paragon is ready to do so by supporting UK businesses make the transition to more sustainable aircraft.

Why is it important for the aviation sector to be talking about sustainability?

Aviation is an integral part of how the world functions and with that comes the responsibility of taking a leading, visible role in prioritising and implementing sustainability.  By taking a strong position on net zero and increasing its investment in green technology research, the sector has a positive story to tell, and the more businesses and the public are aware about improvements in aviation, and how they can be supported in adapting their operations to more sustainable options, the better.

Is there a recent deal that stands out for you?

All deals are memorable and it is always a pleasure to facilitate businesses acquiring the assets they require to further their operations, but working with the SERE Group to help facilitate the contract it secured with the NHS has been a particular highlight of the last 12 months. Some may not be aware that aviation plays a vital role for the NHS in both the movement of patients and medical teams, as well as essential medical supplies. To work with a fantastic company to support the NHS was a real privilege and knowing that the plane is out there each week saving lives is very gratifying.
